MRS. WM. HILLEMAN
Mrs. Wm. Hilleman died on Wednesday of last week at her home on west Main street from the infirmities of old age. Mrs. Hilleman’s maiden name was Knoke. She was the only surviving sister to Mr. Henry Knoke of the 5th ward and was born in Germany. At the time of death she was in her 82nd year. She came to America at the age of sixteen and settled in Canada where she was married at the age of twenty-three to Wm. Hilleman. In 1854 they came to the United States, stopping first at Lansing and then coming to Winneshiek county, locating on the farm eleven miles north of Decorah, where they continued to reside until fourteen years ago, when they came to Decorah to live. Eight children were born to them, five daughters and three sons. Two sons and the father have passed away. In her youth, Mrs. Hilleman was confirmed in the Lutheran church in Germany and the relation thus established was continued with the German Lutheran church near the farm where she made her home for many years. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon Rev Mahlon Willett officiating, and the remains were interred in the Phelps cemetery.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows this was Wilhelmina and Phelps Cemetery shows that she was born Jan. 9 1828 and died April 21, 1909
