Last Wednesday morning the community was shocked when word reached here by phone that Jos. W. Swehla, a resident of this town the greatest part of his life, died at 2 o’clock that morning at his home in Jackson Junction, where he has resided since last spring. The remains were conveyed to this place Wednesday afternoon, and were placed temporarily in his house here until Friday morning, when the funeral services took place in the St. Wenceslaus church at 10 o’clock. The deceased was 55 years of age at the time of his death. Besides his aged mother, who resides at Calmar, and four brothers, he leaves a wife, four daughters, Mrs. F. K. Novak of Little Turkey, Mrs. Iver Ringdahl of Decorah and Misses Regina and Ida at home.

Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery shows the name spelled Josef Svehla. It indicates he was born in 1852.
