K. K. Neste, Many Years Resident of Madison Township, Goes to His Reward

One of the pioneers of Madison township, Mr. K. K. Neste, Sr., was laid to rest on Saturday in the Haugen cemetery south of the city, the funeral services being held at West Union Prairie church.

K. K. Neste was born Sept. 6, 1838, in West Slidre, Valdres, Norway, and came to America in the early fifties, settling on Koshkonong Prairie, Wis., soon afterward coming to Winneshiek county and locating in Madison township, where he has since made his home.

In 1871 he was married to Miss Gro Tostenson Hagejordet, who preceded him in death eight years ago. Seven children were born to the union, four boys, and three girls, two of the daughters having died.

Last summer Mr. Neste started for Norway with some of his friends, to visit among the scenes of his boyhood. At Calmar he injured his foot in some manner, but thinking little of it, continued on the journey to Norway. While there he was unable to get about very much, and became ill from other difficulties, so that he could not return with his companions. Finally he came home, but continued to fall from the time he arrived until the end, which came at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frettheim.

In the death of this man the county has lost a straightforward, honorable citizen, a good man, who contributed much to the development of this vicinity, who reared a family of estimable children, and who will long be kindly remembered by the friends and neighbors of so many years.
