Funeral services for Oscar M. Russell were held Saturday morning from St. Benedict's Catholic church, Rev. M.E. Nolan officiating. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery. Mr. Russell died Sept. 18 after a lingering illness. He was born in Patch Prairie, Iowa, Dec. 20, 1855, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Russell. He came to Decorah in a covered wagon with his grandparents, his parents having died when he was an infant. He was educated in the rural schools of Hesper township. He was married to Margaret Morton, August 14, 1877 at St. Benedict's Centennial church in Decorah by Father McNutty. Mrs. Russell died in 1933. The surviving children are William, Mary, Nellie, Nick, Frank and Joe.

Mr. Russell, one of Winneshiek county's pioneers, was a kind and loving father and a good neighbor. His health was especially good until the last few months and he could read without glasses.
