William Russell, 87, of Decorah died October 10 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Cresco. A life-long resident of Winneshiek County and Decorah, Mr. Russell had been employed by Winneshiek County, Luther College and also had worked on farms in the area before his retirement.

Funeral services were held Friday morning at St. Benedicts Catholic Church with burial in St. Benedicts Cemetery. Pallbearers were Roy Dinger, Lester Seim, Paul Quandahl, Kenneth Nesset, Leonard McCaffrey and Fred Lubke. Father A.P. White conducted final rites, and Alan Sensor was organist. Arrangements were made by Steine Funeral Home.

William Russell was born September 3, 1885 in Canoe Township, the son of Oscar and Margaret Russell. He attended rural and Decorah Public Schools and was a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church.

Mr. Russell, who had never married, is survived by two brothers, Nick Russell of Decorah and Joseph Russell of Elkader.
