Funeral services were held Saturday morning, Sept. 16, at the Decorah Methodist Church for former Decorah businessman Andrew P. Thornton, 71, who died September 13 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital here. Rev. David Ash, pastor, officiated at the services.

Thornton, well known throughout this area through the Thornton Feed Store in Decorah, was born here October 29, 1900, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.O. Thornton. He attended both grade school and high school here, and on June 28, 1922, he married Pearl Ruth. He farmed in Winneshiek County for 22 years prior to entering the feed business in 1944

Thornton was a member of the United Methodist Church, chairman of the church board, and was a member of various committees within the church.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, Glen of Decorah and Ronald of Minneapolis, Minn.; two brothers, Roy of Decorah and Richard of Demotte, Ind.; five sisters, Mrs. Elmer (Eva) Holt of Ryderwood, Wash., Mrs. John (Gladys) Ammondson of Fairfield, Mont., Mrs. James (Dorothy) Retenour of Schoolcraft, Mich., Mrs. Mable White and Mrs. Bessie Kessel, both of Decorah; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Following the service, burial was in Phelps Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Olson-Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah.
