OBITUARY.
MRS. A. C. HITCHCOCK.
On Thursday last in Omaha, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Nickerson, occurred the death of Mrs. Millie M. Hitchcock, widow of Arthur C. Hitchcock. Mrs. Hitchcock’s maiden name was Millie M. Smith and she was born near Toronto, Canada. She came to Winneshiek county with her parents when thirteen years of age and continued to reside here almost continuously until six years ago she went to Omaha to make her home. In 1863 she was married to Mr. Hitchcock. Five children were born to them. Of these four survive. They are Harland of St. Paul, Mrs. Melvin Marsh of Decorah, Mrs. Leslie Bascomb of Montevideo, Minn., and Mrs. Nickerson. For many years Mrs. Hitchcock was an invalid, enduring her suffering patiently, but acute bright’s diseast{sic} was the cause of her death. The remains were brought to Decorah Saturday and were escorted by relatives and friends to Phelps’ cemetery, where interment was made, Rev. W. E. VanBuren officiating. Mrs. Hitchcock was one of those quiet, unassuming women, whose goodness of heart shone brightest in the home and made happy those about her.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows her name as Melissa and that she was born Sept. 1842 and died Aug. 6, 1908. She Is buried in Phelps Cemetery.
