ANOTHER PIONEER AT REST.
Benjamin F. Glimpse, Early Day Hesper Resident, Died last Saturday.
Benjamin Franklin Glimpse died Saturday last at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ed. Farrington in the fifth ward, after an illness of some months from Bright’s disease.
Mr. Glimpse was born on May 6, 1837, in Akron, Ohio, and came to Winneshiek county with his parents and settled in Hesper township in 1853. Here he resided until July, 1886, when he moved to Colorado where he lived for the past twenty-two years, engaged in the meat and grocery business. For a considerable part of this time he lived at Colorado Springs, but this spring—in March—he removed to Akron, Colo., where he had interests. On May 25 he arrived in Decorah, coming from Mercy Hospital at Denver, where he had been ill. He had intended to make a visit here, but his affliction had attained such a grip upon him that he was ill almost from the first, and for the past month his condition ahs been serious most of the time.
In 1858 at Prairie de Chien Mr. Glimpse was married to Caroline Bailey, and she with their three daughters, Mrs. E. T. Reed and Mrs. Farrington of Decorah and Mrs. Chloe A. Stewart of Portland, Oregon, were all present during his final illness to care for him. He was also visited by his sisters Mrs. Jos. Kirk of Morrill, Kas., and Mrs. John Page from Wisconsin, and his brother N. C. Glimpse of Rushford, Minn, as well as other relatives during his confinement here.
Mr. Glimpse was a good citizen and his genial disposition and kindly ways will long be remembered by his former neighbors and friends here. His home life was a happy one, to which he contributed by his devotion and care.
The funeral was held Tuesday, the 14th, Rev. M. Willett officiating, and the remains were interred in the Montgomery cemetery.
