Last Saturday a dispatch from Freeport announced the death of Thomas Long, generally known here by the nickname of “Irish Tom,” a resident in this vicinity for about 40 years. He died at the age of 86 years. His remains were brought here for burial Monday morning, and the interment took place the same day at 2 o’clock in the Catholic cemetery. Rev. Broz performing the obsequies. William Long of Elgin, Ill., the son of the deceased, was the only relative present, besides a number of friends and acquaintances, who followed the remains to the last resting place.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born in 1832 and Died May 9, 1908. He is buried in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery.
