Pioneer Colored Man Dies.
John Burghardt, the aged negro who has lived in Decorah and vicinity since 1857 died on Monday and was buried Saturday in the Freeport cemetery. Rev. Van Buren officiating. Deceased was born Sept. 16, 1826, in Great Barrington, Mass. For the past thirty-six years he has lived on a small farm about two and a half miles north of Decorah, during his later years being cared for by Mrs. John Erickson and family.

The funeral of John Burghardt was held in the M. E. church here last Saturday, Rev. Van Buren officiating.
