On Tuesday morning at eight o’clock occurred the death of Mr. Shaefer at the home of his daughter Mrs. Reuter here. He has been a great sufferer for the past few months with that dread disease cancer, but bore his suffering patiently. Mr. Shaefer was a stranger in our community until this summer, except a few weeks of each summer which he spent with his daughter here. This spring he came here to spend the summer. About three months ago he was taken ill and Dr. Kessel was called and pronounced his case hopeless. All that could be done was done to relieve his sufferings and death came as a happy release. Mr. Shaefer was about 87 years of age, was an amiable old gentleman who always had a kind word for everybody. His body was taken to Milwaukee for burial by the side of his wife who died 25 years ago. His son George, who has been here for the past month helping care for him, and his daughter Mrs. Reuter accompanied the remains to Milwaukee, where the funeral was held Sunday. The family have the sympathy of all Kendallville people.
