Arthur Miller Drowned.
Tuesday afternoon Arthur and Cranston Miller, sons of Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Miller, and George Childs secured permission to go skating on the pond back of Luther College. Going by way of J. I. Tavener’s they put on their skates with the intention of skating up to the pond. The ice was not strong enough to sustain them and all three broke through. Cranston and George succeeded in getting out and tried to save Arthur by pushing out a club to him, but the ice continued to break and he had become so numb by the cold that he lost his hold and went under the ice. Cranston ran home for his father and H. M. Cummings and Mr. Tavener came to the rescue. They finally succeeded in securing the body but all hope of reviving life had to be abandoned. Arthur was the second son in the Miller home, a lad who was not only beloved by his parents but was a favorite among his chums and well thought of by the older people who knew him. The deepest sympathy is felt for the grief stricken father and mother.
