The friends of Mrs. Jas. Daniels were grieved to hear of her sudden death last Saturday at her home near the Centennial church. We understand she passed away without a moment’s warning from heart disease while occupied in mopping the floor. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of all in their affliction.

Saturday, Nov. 17th, occurred the death of Mrs. James Daniels. She was one of the pioneers of this county. The funeral will occur Wednesday at the Centennial church and interment in the Greenwood cemetery.

OBITUARY.
MRS. MARIA ROSA DANIELS.
Brief mention was made in the REPUBLICAN last week of the death of Mrs. James Daniels of the Centennial church neighborhood. Mrs. Daniels’ maiden name was Maria Cathrine Rosa. She was born in Ulster county, New York Aug. 17th, 1832, and with her parents came to Clayton county Iowa, when thirteen years of age. On Aug. 22d. 1850, she was married to James Daniels. In 1852 they moved to Winneshiek Co., and settled on the farm which has been her home continuously until death separated them on Saturday, Nov. 17th. The cause of Mrs. Daniels’ death was apoplexy and the silent messenger came to her while she was busy about her household cares—came possibly as she would have it come, for all her life has been one of activity, good cheer and helpfulness to those remote as well as those who enjoyed daily or frequent meetings with her. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Daniels. They are Mrs. Lucy Runkle of Lakefield, Minn., Mrs. Jennie Townsend of Backus, Minn., Abram of Missouri Valley Iowa, George, Hiram, Frank, Albert and Theodore of Winneshiek county. Besides the aged husband and the children, there are left to mourn her loss, twenty-one grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and four brothers, namely, Hiram, David, Theodore and John Rosa. To these may be added a host of warm friends who through days of sorrow as well as through days of joy have known the helpful hand and sympathetic nature of this pioneer mother.
The funeral was held at the Centennial church on Wednesday, the 21st, Rev. Margaret Olmstead of Decorah officiating. It was most fitting that those who bore the deceased to her last resting place were her six sons.
