OBITUARY.

HENRY SANDERSON TUCKER.
H. S. Tucker was born in Vermont, August 27th, 1821, and died at Lake Benton, Minn., Friday Nov. 9th, aged 85 years, 3 months and 13 days.
Mr. Tucker came to Iowa February 4th, 1855, and located on the northeast quarter of Section 11, in Canoe township, where he resided for nearly twenty years. He then removed to Decorah township, and city, then to Freeport, where he resided some six years. He removed to Lake Benton six years or so ago, in order to be near members of his family who had all left this region.
During all his years until some three years ago he enjoyed excellent health, and was a man of active habits, and strong convictions. During his earlier years he was a sturdy democrat in conviction; but during the last twenty years of his life he became equally as strong and active in promoting the doctrines of the prohibition party. His last illness began three years ago in an attack of pleurisy, but he retained his faculties until the last, and although he bemoaned the fact that he was left to suffer a burden to others, death came to him “as a thief in the night.” Fifteen minutes prior to his last breath he declined assistance and apparently was as well as ever. When he passed away it was only with a gasp without a struggle and in the end he had reached the goal he had longed for.
His wife, the partner in all his pioneer struggles in Iowa, and five sons survive him. His remains were brought back here and buried last Monday in the Canoe cemetery, near the scenes of his earlier and most active years.

The death of his father called Jule Tucker back to Decorah last Monday, and he remained a couple of days calling on old-time acquaintances. His home is now in Minneapolis, and his avoirdupois has increased considerably since he ceased doing the hard work of a large farm.

Transcriber’s Note: I can’t find any information as to where he was buried even though it says n the Canoe cemetery.
