John P. Sabelka, of the Reilly Ridge and Little Turkey area died Friday, Nov. 21, at the University Hospital, Iowa City of complications following surgery. He was 80.

Funeral services for Mr. Sabelka were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov, 24 from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Reilly Ridge. The Rev. Norbert Delort, C.S.S.R. of Omaha, a nephew, and Father John Ptacek of Little Turkey officiated. Burial was at the parish cemetery with Linus Sabelka, Larry Vsetecka, Jack Kjarvik, Larry Jirak, Mike Blazed and Ervin Sabelka as casket bearers. Larkin-Martin Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

John Sabelka was born July 17, 1895 at Spillville, the son of John and Mary (Kuhn) Sabelka. He received his education at the parochial school at Spillville and was a World War I veteran. He later was engaged in farming near Reilly Ridge and Little Turkey area from 1911 until retirement.

He was married to the former Clara Meier on October 10, 1923 at Guttenberg. Mr. Sabelka was a member of Sacred Heart Church, The American Legion at Lawler and World War I Barracks in New Hampton.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Ivanelle Crowe of Minneapolis and Mrs. George (Mary Ann) Hackman of St. Lucas; two sons, Julian and Jack of Reilly Ridge; 20 grandchildren; five brothers, George and Phil of Reilly Ridge, Edward of New Hampton and Mike and Gust of Spillville.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Joe, and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Petrick and Mrs. Frances Rolfes. Relatives and friends from Shakopee and Minneapolis, Minn., Guttenberg, Cresco, Cedar Rapids, Dickens, Waterloo, Spillville, Little Turkey, Protvin, New Hampton, Lawler and Omaha, Neb. attended the rites.
