John F. Rosenbaum, 86, a resident of the Ossian vicinity for many years, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 14, in Xavier hospital at Dubuque after suffering a stroke on Thursday, Jan. 9.
Funeral services were conducted in St. Francis de Sales Catholic church at Ossian on Friday at 11 a.m. by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. V.J. Peters. Burial was in the church cemetery with the following men serving as pallbearers: Vic Halverson, Orville Winger, Richard Becker, Donald Wessels, Wayne Sender and Evroul Beckman.
Military rites were conducted by Brockman-Hammersland post of the American Legion.
A Rosary was recited Thursday at 8 p.m. in the Schmitz funeral home at Ossian.
John Frank Rosenbaum was born Oct 21, 1888 at Festina, a son of Andrew and Gertrude Rosenbaum. He obtained an education by attending the parochial school at Festina.
On May 2, 1922 he married Miss Louisa Buchheit in Our Lady of Seven Dolors church at Festina. The ceremony was performed by the late Rev. A.J. Rubly. They became the parents of one son and four daughters, who survive. They are Harold Rosenbaum of Dodgeville, Wis., Mrs. Gertrude Kuhn of Madison, Wis., Helen (Sister Mary Ignatia) of Holy Name Hall in Dubuque, Florence (Mrs. Donald Gapinsky) of Olin, Iowa, and Ione (Mrs. Arthur Hartley) of Minneapolis, Minn.
In addition to his son and daughters, he is survived by one brother, Hugo Rosenbaum of Oelwein, and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Young of Prairie du Chien, Wis.
Mr. Rosenbaum was a lifelong resident of the Festina-Ossian community. He farmed for many years northeast of Ossian and then retired to Ossian where he lived ten years. A year ago he moved to Dubuque.
During World War I he served in the U.S. Army in England and France.
