Gerhard S. Forde of 205 Grove Street died August 25 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital at the age of 86. He was a retired farmer and a life-long resident of the county.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday, Aug. 28) at 2 p.m. at Big Canoe Lutheran Church with Pastor Oscar E. Engebretson and Pastor Albert Houts officiating at final rites. Burial will be in the Big Canoe Lutheran Cemetery with the following active pallbearers; Harold Martinson, Raymond Juve, John Juve, Gordon McMasters, Wesley Keck and Kenneth Greiman.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Walter Berge, Emmett Arneson, Larence Jarstad, Oscar Halverson, Edwin Halverson, Scott Houts, John Buss and Theomas Keefe.

Mrs. Ransome Bolson is organist and Earl Arneson will sing. Funeral arrangements are being made by Steine Funeral Home.

Mr. Forde is survived by his wife, the former Agnes Keefe; seven sons and daughters, Mrs. Neil (Martha) Ricklefs, Des Moines, Barbara Forde, Bloomington, Minn., Kent Forde at home, Art Forde, Margaret Forde and Mrs. Ed McIntyre, all of Detroit, Mich., and Lester Forde of Kaukauna, Wis.; one grandchild; two brothers, Walter and Lloyd Forde of Decorah and a sister, Mrs. Sylvia Sand, also of Decorah.

A daughter, Evelyn, his parents, John A. and Martha Forde, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Gerhard Forde was born August 6, 1889 in Pleasant Township where he lived until moving to Decorah. He was educated in the rural schools and served overseas with the United States Army in World War I. He was married November 17, 1943 at Big Canoe Church.

Mr. Forde was a member of Big Canoe Lutheran Church and the VFW.
