Oscar A. Gilbertson, 83, a retired Decorah area farmer, died Wednesday, April 9 at the Decorah Retirement Center. A native of Madison Township, Mr. Gilbertson also had farmed in the Dakotas before returning to Decorah to live in 1949.

Pastor William Thalacker conducted funeral services Saturday, April 12 at Madison Lutheran Church. Burial was in the Madison Lutheran Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Robert Ziegelmaier, Orville Gilbertson, Gerald Gilbertson, Lyle Gilbertson, Ove Melaas and Orin Gilbertson. Mrs. Alton Hovden was organist and accompanied the congregation as they sang hymns. Funeral arrangements were made by Steine Funeral Home.

Mr. Gilbertson is survived by one brother, Gilbert Gilbertson of Decorah.

He was born February 9, 1892 and received his education in the rural schools. He was an overseas veteran of World War I and a member of the Madison Lutheran Church.

He was married February 9, 1920 to Luella Knutson. She died September 12, 1973 and he also was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Aase Gilbertson.
