Robert L. Haines, of Decorah, died September 5 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital at the age of 55. Funeral services for Mr. Haines, who was a lawyer, were held Monday, Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Christenson conducting final rites. Burial was in the Lutheran Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: L.J. Bodensteiner, O.J. Berg, Neil Hendrickson, Bryan Olson, Timothy Stoddard and Gary Gremm.

Mrs. R.A. Haatvedt was organist and accompanied the congregation as they sany hymns. Funeral arrangements were made by Steine Funeral Home.

Mr. Haines is survived by his wife, the former Eleanor Dorrum; two sons, Mark Haines, 18, a 1975 graduate of Decorah High School, at home, and Rober Haines, serving with the U.S. Navy, stationed in Puerto Rico, U.S.A.; his father and stepmother, the Rev. and Mrs. Alfred Haines of Lincoln, Neb. and one brother, Paul Haines of Washington, D.C.

Robert Haines was born January 24, 1920 in Newark, N.J. He attended grade school in Madison, Pierre and Aberdeen, S.D., Shattuck Prep. School, Faribault, Minn., and was a graduate of the South Dakota law school, Vermillion, S.D. A veteran of World War II, he served overseas as a Captain in the infantry, 100th Battalion. He was married August 1, 1946 in Kearney, Neb. and also had lived for a time in Winterset, Ia.

Mr. Haines was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Haines.
