Donald E. Hanson, a former resident of Calmar and Decorah, died suddenly July 6 at Melbourne, Fla. at the age of 41. Mr. Hanson was born in Conover. The family then lived in Decorah for ten years before moving to Calmar where he attended the Calmar schools. For 17 years, Mr. Hanson has been head of the weather bureau department in connection with the missile program at Cape Kennedy, Fla.

Funeral services were conducted July 10 by the Rev. Marvin Berkeland in the Calmar Lutheran church with burial in the the Lutheran cemetery. Pallbearers were Lester Johnson, Loren Weselmann, Kenneth Wangsness, Harvey Hillesland, William Stenseth, Jr., and Linus Rothmeyer. Mrs. Katie Flaskerud was organist.

The Halverson-Giesen American Legion post of Calmar conducted military last rites for Mr. Hanson who had served four years in the U.S. Air Corps.

Donald Edward Hanson was born February 16, 1932, the son of Raymond and the late Mrs. Raymond Hanson. He graduated from Calmar High School in 1950 and attended Drake University in Des Moines for a year.

He was married to the former Miss Janet Tanner at Milbourne, Fla. April 8, 1960. He is survived by his wife and three children, Stephanie, Tracy and Robert, all at home. Other survivors are his father and two sisters, Diane (Mrs. Leo Hageman) of Fort Atkinson and Dorothy (Mrs. Charles Ollendiek) of Cresco.
