The home of B. F. Newcomer in Hesper, that in the early part of the month just closed was a scene of exceeding joy and gratitude for the providence that had spared Mr. and Mrs. Newcomer, the blessing of fifty years of happy married life, is now one of sorrow. The death messenger came to the household this week and Mr. Newcomer is left to mourn alone. Such is life. Sympathy is with him, and it has an untold value, but it cannot fill the void that will remain. Our Hesper correspondent gives details.

Mary A. Hamlin was born in Stark county Ohio, May 11th, 1839. Removed to Westfield, Hamilton county, Indiana, when about five years old, where she grew to womanhood. On July 3rd, 1856, she was married to Benjamin Franklin Newcomer, October 3d, 1856, they started west overland in search of a home and on October 27th landed two miles west of the village of Hesper, and since that time Hesper and Newburg townships have been their homes. Six children came to cheer their home, two daughters having preceded the mother to the glory land. A husband, two sons and two daughters, with six sisters and two brothers are left to mourn the loss of a loving companion, a kind, patient mother, and a Christian sister. The funeral services were held at the residence on the 28th, Rev. A. A. Hallett assisted by Rev. H. C. Carter officiating. The large company in attendance and the beautiful floral offerings, some of which were sent by Mrs. M. V. B. Newcomer who is visiting at Leroy, Minn., and others from the Epworth League at Mabel but feebly expressed the esteem in which Mrs. Newcomer was held by all who knew her. Among those in attendance at the funeral was Caleb Lewis and daughter of Leroy and E. R. Haines of Decorah. Mr. Newcomer and family wish to express their thanks to all who so kindly assisted them in their hour of deep affliction.
