A military funeral was held Friday, Sept. 15 for a well known Fort Atkinson businessman, Stanley J. Klimesh, 55. Rev. Stephen Kucera officiated at the 10:30 Mass in St. Johns Catholic Church, with Sr. Andrea and St. John's choir providing the music. LeRoy Schultz was lector.

Active pallbearers were Andrew Myers, Art Huber, Art Rausch, Alex Mihm, Paul Kuhn and Wilfred Elsbernd. Honorary pallbearers were William Krivachek, Bernell Secora, Paul Glass, Stanley Sindelar, Robert Bulgren, Ray Myers, Ray Rausch and Serenus Elsbernd.

Mr. Klimesh died Monday, Sept. 11 at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City after an illness of five weeks. He was born June 8, 1917, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A. Klimesh of Spillville. He attended school in that community. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, a member of the Submarine Division.

On May 28, 1945, he married the former Arlene Taylor in St. Wenceslaus Church, Spillville. His wife and four children survive. They are Mrs. Clair (Faye) Carolan of Ankeny, Ia., Mark, Lyle and Joseph at home.

He lived in Conover and Calmar for a short time before moving to Fort Atkinson where he owned and operated a tavern for 26 years.

He was a member of St. Johns Church, the American Legion and the South Winneshiek Golf and Country Club. He served many years on the Fort Atkinson town council, was a member of the volunteer fire department, and served as park commissioner.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by infant twin daughters, Sharon and Karen. Other survivors include two brothers, Walter Klimesh of Spillville and Leonard Klimesh of Chicapee, Mass., four sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Pauline) Malek of Cresco, Mrs. Elmer (Angie) Weston, Summit, Calif., Mrs. Delores Frana, Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Victor (Betty) Shimek, Harmony, Minn. Burial was in St. Johns Cemetery. French Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
