Victor Henry Hoeg, 77, of Decorah died September 20 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital following a long illness. He was a life-long resident of Decorah.

Funeral services for Mr. Hoeg were held Sunday, Sept. 23 at 2:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, with burial following in the Lutheran Cemetery. The Rev. R. David Berg officiated at the services.

Pallbearers were Lowell Erlman, Earl Rima, Paul Knipe, Arthur Branhagen, Vernon Ellickson and Jim McAndrews. Connie Bolson was the organist.

Mr. Hoeg is survived by his wife, the former Laura Hjelle of Decorah, whom he married in 1941, three children, Sally, (Mrs. Walter Williams), Minneapolis, Carl, (Mrs. Dennis Oliver), St. Louis, Mo., and Robert of Honolulu, Hawaii; one sister, Mrs. Dagny Schick of La Mesa, Calif., and ten grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dolly Ingram Hoeg, who died in 1935, his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Christain Hoeg of Decorah, and two brothers, Chris and Harold.

Mr. Hoeg was born in Decorah, June 4, 1896 and attended Decorah High School, graduating with the class of 1914. He attended the University of Iowa and graduated with a degree in civil engineering in 1924. He also served with the army in France during World War I and was wounded in action.

Mr. Hoeg was assistant Winneshiek County Engineer from 1925 to 1946, and was County Engineer from 1946 until 1953 when a stroke forced his partial retirement. He continued part-time engineering work for some years.

All of his life, Victor Hoeg enjoyed fishing along the streams of North East Iowa, and among the engineering projects he worked on were the dykes around Decorah, the Trempaleau Dam across the Mississippi, and the roads of Winneshiek County. He was also a member of Disabled American Veterans.

Mr. Hoeg was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
