Lawrence Arthur Bjonerud, 78, of Calmar died July 24 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital following a sudden heart attack. Mr. Bjonerud was a retired Superintendent of Linwood Cemetery in Dubuque. A native of Calmar, he had lived in Dubuque from 1929 to 1969 returning to Calmar to make his home four years ago.

Funeral services for Mr. Bjonerud were held this morning (Thursday) at 10:30 a.m. at Calmar Lutheran Church with burial in the Calmar Lutheran Cemetery. The Rev. Marvin Berkeland officiated. Pallbearers were Fred Luzum, Clarence Falnes, Arnold Erland, Albert Zweibohmer, Jerry Hebrink and Sidney Stenseth. Kitty Flaskerud was organist.

Mr. Bjonerud is survived by his wife, the former Ester Nystrom; a daughter, Mrs. Roger (Oline) Stigers of 384 21st St. S.E., Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, James Stigers and Jennifer Stigers and four brothers, Robert Bjonerud and Idor Bjonerud, both of Calmar, Chester Bjonerud of Aberdeen, S.D. and Earl Bjonerud of Piedmont, Calif.

Mr. Bjonerud was born June 9, 1895 in Calmar, the son of Randi and Ingvald Bjonerud Olson. He graduated from Calmar High School and attended the University of Minnesota. He was married May 23, 1936 in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Mr. Bjonerud was a World War I veteran, a 50 year member of the American Legion and secretary-treasurer of the Association of Iowa Cemeteries. He also belonged to the Metropolitan Lodge of Dubuque, the Rotary and the Low Twelve.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
