Funeral services for E. Howard Nelson of 701 River Street were held April 18 at Decorah Lutheran Church. Mr. Nelson, who was a carpenter, died April 15 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was 54.

Pastor Alden H. Hovda conducted final rites for Mr. Nelson, who was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church. His pallbearers were Weston Noble, Marc Nichols, Wendell Lillegraven, Fred Weilbrenner, Victor Halverson and Merle Smith. Music was provided by Mrs. Otto Ruen, organist and Norman Gjevre, soloist. Burial was in Washinton Prairie Lutheran Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were made by Steine Funeral Home.

Mr. Nelson was born September 12, 1918 in Decorah, the son of Andrew and Mabel Nelson. He attended rural schools in Springfield Township and served in the United States army. After his return from service in 1945 he was employed as a carpenter in Decorah.

He was married to the former Mildred Gjevre December 7, 1944 at Washington Prairie, and he is survived by his wife and three sons, Daniel at home, Dean of Oslo, Norway and David of Big Timber, Mont. Also surviving are three brothers, Reuben Nelson of Jacksonville, Fla., Clarence Nelson of Mason City and Curtis Nelson of Milwaukee and a sister, Mrs. Mildren Hanson of Minneapolis.
