W.J. Korbel, Former Calmar Man Dies
W.J. Korbel of 925 Lindale Drive, Marion, Ia. and formerly of Calmar died Monday, July 22 at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids at the age of 42.
The son of John and Agnes Novak, he was born September 28, 1931 in Calmar and graduated from Calmar High School. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict and on October 13, 1957 married Marlene Martinson at St. Joseph's Church in Marion.
The couple lived in Oelwein until 1972 when they moved to Marion.
Mr. Korbel was a member of St. Joseph Church, Post 298 of the American Legion and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, AFL-CIO.
Since 1969 he had been employed as a machinist with the Goss Co. Prior to 1969, he worked for the Burroughs Corp. for 13 years as a field engineer.
Mr. Korbel is survived by his wife; a son Jerry; two daughters, Cyndi and Madonna and a sister, Mrs. Robert (Agnes) Marks, Columbus, Ohio.
Funeral services were held this morning (Thursday, July 25) at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church with burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Murdock Chapel.Decorah Journal, July 25, 1974
