DEATH FROM LAUDANUM.
Louis Rastetter takes an Overdose of the drug with Fatal Effect.
As the result of a protracted debauch Louis Rastetter died early last Saturday morning. The cause of his death was an overdose of laudanum. During the last two weeks he had been drinking heavily, and for three days previous to his death took but little food. As had been his custom on previous occasions he procured some laudanum and took it to produce sleep, but in his crazed condition he took probably more than he had over taken before. He had been known to take two ounces of the drug and come out of his stupor all right. This time it must have been three to four ounces, as Doctors Daubney and E. H. and H. S. Williams worked over him all night, using every means available without producing the slightest effect. The funeral was held Tuesday morning from his late residence, and was largely attended. He leaves a wife, a brother, Joseph, and two sisters, Mrs. Henry Schulz, of this city, and Mrs. B. Rank, of Chicago.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows his first name spelled Lewis and that he was born in 1861. He is buried in St. Benedict Cemetery.
