Mrs. Richards, one of Burr Oak's oldest residents, died of paralysis Monday night. She had been feeble for some time and her death was not unexpected. Funeral this afternoon.

OBITUARY.
SARAH VAN NORMER RICHARDS was born in the state of Pennsylvania on May 5th, 1805, and died at her home in Burr Oak, Iowa, April 1st, 1895, aged 89 years, 10 months and 20 days. In her early life she removed to Ohio and in the year 1845 was married to Mr. Wm. Richards. For nearly forty years she lived in happy companionship with her husband. On the l0th day of September, 1885, she was bereft of her husband by the hand of death. Her husband manifested great interest in the course of christian education. He was one of the founders of Hiram College and was instrumental in the election of James A. Garfield as president of that institution. The deceased was a good wife and a kind and faithful step-mother. In the year 1845 she embraced religion and joined the Christian church, since which time she has been a faithful Christian, seeking to be ready for the coming of her Master. For nearly 30 years she has been a resident of Burr Oak and enjoyed the respect and sympathy of her many friends. She reached a ripe old age but the Lord hath said unto her, “Well done.” The services were held at the M. E. church at Burr Oak, the undersigned officiating, J. HILBURN.
