NATHAN SYLVESTER MARSH.
Monday evening last at 7:30 o’clock at his borne in West Decorah, Nathan Sylvester Marsh passed away after an illness of several years. Mr. Marsh was born at Newberryport, Mass., Jan. 8th, 1836, and at the time of his death had just entered his sixty-first year. In May, 1851, his family moved to Minnesota, and in 1856 Mr. Marsh came to Decorah, establishing himself in blacksmithing. On June 1st, 1861, he was married to Gertrude Anderson, who, with six children, survives him. The children are all residents of Decorah and were able to be at his bedside at his death. Up to the time he retired from business some six or seven years ago he was a very hard and skillful workman. In 1890 he was of the first to suffer the effects of la grippe, and a year later he was again attacked by this disease. Since that time his health has been failing. In September last he returned from a visit to Minnesota and almost immediately took to his bed. Since that time he has not left his room. The funeral service will be held at the house this afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. A. L. Huus officiating.
