Commits Suicide at Decorah.
James H. Farrell, a plasterer of Cresco, who has been working in Decorah this summer in the employ of I. W. Ward and and{sic} also of John Gold, committed suicide last Thursday. He had been despondent for some time, and about two weeks ago a staging fell and injured his head. He was last seen Wednesday afternoon about three o'clock, when he quit work. Thursday evening at about six o’clock J. H. Hargraves was out in his yard and he happened to look up into the loft of the barn a little ways from his yard and saw a man laying there in the hay. He went over to investigate, climbed up into the loft and discovered the man was dead. The barn was near the Milwaukee turning table in the south end. Mr. Hargreaves immediately not{i}fied the officials, and on investigation by them the remains were identified as Mr. Farrell’s. A 32 calibre revolver laid by his side, he having shot himself through the center of the forehead. The body was cold when found, which was evidence that he had been dead for several hours. He left a note reading, that “he was tired of living, and not to blame anybody, as he did the act himself,” and it was signed by him.
The deceased was born in Orleans township, Winneshiek county, forty years ago. About twelve years ago he moved to Harmony, Minn., and a year ago moved to Cresco. He was a married man and leaves a wife and four children. He was said to be an expert plasterer and one of the best workmen in this part of the state.
The remains were taken to Cresco Friday, and the funeral was held Sunday from the Catholic church, interment being in St. Joseph’s cemetery. —Decorah Public Opinion.
