JOHN N. KELLY.
John N. Kelly, one of the pioneer settlers of Bluffton township, died at his home, four miles from Bluffton village, last Monday, after an illness of several months.
Mr. Kelly was born at Blacklion, County Caven, Ireland, in February, 1827, and came to America in 1847. Previous to coming to Iowa he lived in Massachusetts and Illinois. In I856 he came to Winnesheik county and took up land in Bluffton township. This continued to be his home for the remainder of his life. On June 29th, 1868, Mr. Kelly was married to Mary Agnes Melanaphy. To them nine children were born, seven of whom with the mother survive. Two brothers and one sister—Patrick Kelly in Ireland, Hugh Kelly in Burr Oak, and Mrs. Margaret Thyne, of Bluffton—also remain.
Mr. Kelly was a good friend and neighbor: in politics a strong Democrat, and as such held various township officers to the satisfaction of his constituents.
The funeral services were held at Bluffton, this morning, at nine o'clock, Rev. Father Hawe, of Decorah, officiating.
