Dennis Hovden, age 71, formerly of Ridgeway, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at his home in Cresco, Iowa.

Private family services will be held at the Madison Lutheran Church in rural Ridgeway, with burial in the church cemetery.

Dennis Roy Hovden was born on February 22, 1949 to Gerald and Caroline (Yarwood) Hovden in Winneshiek County. He attended Ridgeway Elementary School and graduated from Cresco High School in 1967. He continued his education at Winona State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1971.

On November 24, 1972 he married the love of his life, Christine Regan at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Waukon, Iowa. To this union two sons were born.

His early working career took him to Watkins Products Inc., where he was a service operations manager. In 1976, Dennis joined the world of banking, taking his first position with Farmers State Bank. In 1986, Farmers State joined forces with Cresco Union Savings Bank. He worked in the Ridgeway office was an Ag lender until his retirement in December of 2014.

Dennis enjoyed the outdoors. You could find him hunting for pheasants in northeast Iowa, casting the fishing pole from his boat into the Mississippi River or the annual fishing trips to Canada with his sons. And if it’s Thursday, he was sure to be golfing at the Cresco Country Club. During football season you would find Denny cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes and Green Bay Packers.

He is survived by his wife Chris, two sons, Bradley (Sarah) Hovden and Andrew Hovden, two grandchildren, Preslee and Krew, two brothers, Maynard (Diane) Hovden and Wayne (Patty) Hovden and his mother in-law, Kathleen Regan.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents; Gerald in 1987 and Caroline in 2000 and his father in-law, John Regan in 2002.
