After an illness of five weeks Mrs. Sophia K. Curtis, wife of Dr. J. Wilbur Curtis, died at their home on east Broadway, Sunday morning, July 9th, from nervous exhaustion. Mrs. Curtis’ maiden name was Sophia K. Kelsey and she was born at North Egremont, Mass., May 1st, 1836, On June 1st, 1860, she was married to J. Wilbur Curtis. To them one child was born— a daughter—now Mrs. E. A, Gowran, of Portage, Wis. After a residence of some years at Steubenville, Ohio, the family came to Decorah in March, 1869, and this has been their residence ever since.
A lovely woman has gone to her rest. She was possessed of a beautiful Christian character, patient, long-suffering, a faithful wife and a devoted mother. Many friends join the husband and daughter in mourning for their dead.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Holmes, of Cresco, and Rev. M. Willett officiating.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows she is buried in Mount Everett Cemetery in Egremont, MA
