Three Deaths in a Week.
Three deaths from spinal fever, or cerebro spinal meningitis, occurred within one week. The first, was that of Ed. Gillett, who died on the 6th inst., at the residence of Chas. Brooks, and whose remains were taken to Mason City for burial. The second was that of Mrs. H. R. Thomas, reported in another column, who died Monday; and the third is Mrs. Charles March, who died Tuesday afternoon. There have been other cases, or supposed cases, and still others are now ill.Source: Decorah Republican Apr. 13, 1899 P 2, 3 C 1, 2, 4
—After an illness of but a few days from spinal meningitis, Mrs. C. L. March died at the family home in south Decorah about five o’clock Tuesday afternoon. With a number of young children growing up, needing a mother’s care more than at any time in life, this affliction comes to Mr. March and the family when it is the hardest to bear. The sympathy of everyone goes out to them in their sorrow.
