Margaret McConnell, age 86, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, IA.

A private family service will be held at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Bluffton, Iowa, with Rev. Dan Knipper presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to her daughter: Patty Marlow at 3226 Old Spring Road, Decorah, IA 52101.

Margaret Ann (Peterson) McConnell was born on November 12, 1933 the daughter of Alfred and Esther (Johnson) Peterson in Fillmore County, Minnesota. She graduated from Lanesboro High School in 1951. After high school, she worked at Stans Bakery in Harmony which is where she met her future husband: Charles “Eddie” McConnell. They were united in marriage on May 11, 1954. Together they had five children: Steve, Patty, Pam, Mark and Mary. Margaret and Eddie owned and operated the Bluffton Store for many years until Eddie’s passing in 1978. She then went to work for Rockwell Collins in Decorah until her retirement. After retiring from Rockwell, Margaret helped in the kitchen at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah. Margaret enjoyed reading, taking walks, flowers and gardening and especially loved spending time with family.

Margaret is survived by her children: Steve (Cheryl) McConnell, Decorah, IA; Patty (Fred) Marlow, Bluffton, IA; Pam (Joe) Kluck, Rochester, MN; Mark (Tracy) McConnell, Rockford, IL and Mary (Bryan) Grube, Cresco, IA. Grandchildren: Candi McConnell, Brandon (Angie) McConnell, Aaron (Laura) McConnell, Randy (Lisa) Marlow, Wade (Twyla) Marlow, Morgan (Tim) Fechner, Breann (Johnny) Butts, Emily (John) Meyer, Torri McConnell, Adam McConnell, Kelsey (Todd) Schmitt, Jordan Grube, Trystan Grube and Taryn Grube. Ten great-grandchildren and four great – great grandchildren. Sister: Avis Larson. In-laws: Frank (Mary) McConnell, Shirley McConnell, Rosella Peterson and Lois Peterson.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Eddie McConnell. Grandson: Patrick Kluck. Parents: Alfred and Esther (Johnson) Peterson. Brothers and sisters: Doris (Donald) Matson, Percy Peterson, Joyce (Stan) Jandro, Jerry (Eleanor) Peterson, and Roger Peterson. Father and mother-in-law: Thomas and Elizabeth (McCormick) McConnell. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Mary Jane (Leonard) McCabe, Lucian (Millie) McConnell, Gene Larson, James McConnell and Roger McConnell.
