Death of a Former Resident.
The Chicago Tribune of last Monday morning contained the following notice Lloyd D. Townsley, Chicago, died Jan. 15, 1899. His home was at 6017 Monroe avenue. Mr. Townsley was born in DeKalb, N Y , seventy years ago and came to Chicago in 1869. He was interested in the lumber business and was also connected with a number of mining companies operating in Colorado and Mexico. During the civil war he was a Major of the Twelfth Iowa Volunteers. He leaves a widow and three children.
Mr. Townsley was bookkeeper in the Decorah bank of Wm. L. Euston & Son in 1861 when the War of the Rebellion broke out. He enlisted in the company recruited by Capt. Charles C. Tupper, in the 12th Iowa, and became first lieutenant. Tpon{sic} the death of Capt. Tupper he succeeded to the captaincy and served through his term and ended as major of the regiment. His wife, whom he married after the war, was the widow of D. W. Nickerson, second lieutenant of the same company, and who died in the army. Mr. Townsley was a genial, whole-souled follow, whom all liked.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born in 1829 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery in Chicago, IL.
