PIONEER MILLER PASSES
NATHAN Rogers, Who Came to Springwater in 1854, Dies in Minneapolis Hospital
From the Minneapolis Journal of last Friday, Nov. 19th. we learn that Nathan Rogers, one of the Springwater pioneers of 1854 who conducted the mill there for a time and who was also employed in the Heively mill in Decorah about the year 1865, died at the city hospital as a result of a fall a month previous. Mr. Rogers came to Winneshiek county from Adrian, Michigan. In Edgar Odson's article on the "Passing of Springwater," published in the REPUBLICAN on August 12, 1909 he is spoken of as one of the "younger unattached members" of the community. He is credited with going to the Pacific coast from here. In 1873 he took up his residence in Minneapolis and for many years was managing millwright in the Cataract, Standard, Northwestern, Washburn and other mills. During his declining years he resided with his son C.R. Rogers, 2911 Central avenue. Other surviving sons are Harlan A. and William F. Rogers, Minneapolis, and Stanley Rogers of Portland, Oregon. The funeral was held Monday afternoon last at two o'clock.
