Sarah Kingsley was born in Oneida county, N. Y., Sept. 6, 1823. Was married to Andrew N. Green Oct. 17, 1843. They emigrated to Minnesota in 1856 and removed to Iowa in 1866 which has since been their permanent home. Mrs. Green departed this life on Thursday evening, Feb. 13, 1913, in her 90th year. She was the mother of eight children six of whom, with the aged husband and one sister, survive her. Elbert and Horace, Mrs. Selina Bennett and Mrs. Mary Callahan, all of South Dakota, Mrs. Carrie River of Riceville, Iowa, and Mrs. Ada Young of Kendallvllle.
Mrs. Green joined the Methodist church when she was only 16, and has ever been a consistent member since, always foremost in every good work for the betterment of humanity; long a teacher in the Sunday schools and a member of the L. A. S. till the infirmatives of age prevented, and was well known and respected by a host of friends.
She was a sister of the Rev. Calvin Kingsley, a Bishop of the Methodist church who died at Beyrout, Syria, as a missionary.
Her youngest daughter, Mrs. Ada Young has lived with the father and mother since the death of her husband eleven years ago, and has cared for them with unselfish love and devotion, anticipating their every want, doing everything for their comfort and rendering their last days peaceful and happy.
Funeral services conducted by Revs. Gammons and Myers were held at the Kendallville church Sabbath morning. Burial was in Kendallville cemetery.Transcriber's Note: Her gravestone shows the name spelled Greene.
