Died:—At the home of her daughter, Mrs. Irvin Allen, Castalia, Iowa, Mary Ester, wife, of the late John Garland, age 67 years, 10 months, 20 days. Mary Esther Lemon was born at Canton, St. Lawrence Co., N. Y., March 28, 1833. She was married at Boston, Mass., to John Garland, May 1, 1855. She moved to Iowa with her husband in 1861 and settled near Ridgeway, where they resided until the spring of 1882, when they moved to Nebraska. There in 1887 the husband died. Since then she has made her home with her children, all of whom survive her: Addie (now Mrs. J. A. Blackburn,) of Savage, Neb., Joseph C., of Dubuque; Julia, (now Mrs. Irvin Allen,) of Castalia; James L., of Minneapolis, and Lita, wife of Dr. L. M. Small, of Lindsay, Wis. Mrs. Garland was one of a family of eleven children, three of whom survive her: James Lemon, of Potsdam, N. Y., Melvin S. Lemon, of Cresco, Iowa, and Laura Lemon, of Hanford, Cal. The funeral services were conducted from the United Brethren church by Rev. Dickenshoots. She was buried by the side of her husband at Castalia, Iowa.
