Another Old Settler at Rest.
Hans E Sivesind, one of the earliest settlers of Glenwood township, died on the 5th inst. Mr. Sivesind was born in Vostro Toten parish, Norway, March 10, 1819. There he grow to manhood and performed the prescribed service in the army as cavalryman. In 1853 be came to America and settled in Glenwood township, where be continued to reside until the time of his death. Mr. Sivesind was one of the founders of the Lutheran congregation in his township under the able leadership and care of Rev. V. Koren. His relationship to the congregation was continued throughout his life and he was one of the most untiring workers in the building of the handsome stone church which they occupy and interested himself and others particularly for Luther Colloge. Mr. Sivesind was twice married. By his first wife he had eight children, three of whom died in infancy. Three sons and two daughters grew to manhood and womanhood and all were married. Both daughters and one son are now dead, leaving two sons,—Ole, who resides near the homestead and Hans, who lives in the state of Washington. His first wife died about twenty-five years ago. Two years later he married Mrs. Celia Danielson, whoso maiden name was Celia Hanson Hegg, and she survives to mourn his loss.
The funeral of Mr. Sivesind took place on Wednesday of last week, the 9th, and was very largely attended. The service was very impressive from the fact that another — an intimate friend and neighbor—Hans Blegen — had died about the same time and their coffins stood side by side in the church when Rev. Borge preached their funeral sermons.
Mr. Sivesind was a man who enjoyed the honor and respect of all who knew him.Transcriber’s Note: Iowa Gravestone Photos show he is buried in East Glenwood Cemetery
