GUTTORM ALLEN.
Another of the Norwegian pioneers passed into rest last Thursday afternoon, when Guttorm Allen, of Springfield township, died. He had been ill for a long time but was not considered dangerously so. Deceased was born in Norway Nov. 5, 1826, and was aged 74 years, 1 month and 22 days. In 1845 he came to the United States and located in Rock county, Wis. During the Mexican war he enlisted but did not get to see service. In 1854 he came to this county and settled on the farm where he lived all the remaining years. In 1850 he married Christie Rishovd, who, with six sons and one daughter, survives him. One son, Prof H. Allen, was educated for the ministry of the Norwegian Lutheran church, and is now a professor in the Young Ladies’ Seminary at Red Wing, Minn. In his life Mr. Allen deserved and always enjoyed the sincere respect of all who knew him.
