GULBRAND THRONDSEN LOMEN,
The death of this well known citizen should have been recorded last week, but absence of some data prevented, and still there are some facts which we would like to give but cannot.
Gulbrand Throndsen was born in Vestre Sildre, Norway, Aug. 26th, 1826, and died at his farm home south of this city on the 19th of December, 1900, thus making his age 73 years, 3 months and 23 days. Whether he resided at any other point before coming to this county we are not informed. But the later date was in September, 1851, or in the same year and only a few months following the coming hither from Wisconsin of the pioneer Norwegian colony. He secured land in Section 33 In what became Decorah township. He was always a good citizen, of quiet habits, but greatly esteemed by all who knew him. This was proven by his election to be county treasurer in 1869 and a re-election in 1871. After his retirement from office he was steward of Luther College for a few years, and then retired to private life on the farm.
Mr. Lomen was married to Mrs Gulbrandson in the 60’s. He had no children, and his wife died several years ago. His surviving relatives are two brothers—Mr. K. Throndsen, of Decorah, and Ole T. Lomen, of Military township, and two sisters, Mrs. G. M. Johnson and Miss S. T. Lomen, both residing In Yorkville, Ill.

Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone in Union Prairie Cemetery shows his name spelled Lommen.
