John M. Murray Dead
John A. Murray, aged 69 years, died at his home in north Stroud on Sunday morning Nov. 3, 1929, after some three weeks illness of liver and heart trouble. He was born in Waterford County, Ireland, coming to the U.S. when but a small boy. His parents settled in Iowa. He came to Oklahoma in 1901 and to Stroud, Oklahoma in 1902 where he has lived since. His wife preceded him in death twenty-one years. He leaves four children, John, George, Leonard, and Miss Minnie Murray. He had five brothers and three sisters. Those who survive him are T. H. of Britt, Iowa, who came for the funeral, George of St. Paul, Minnesota, James of Great Falls, Montana, and Mrs. Todd of St. Paul, Minnesota. Father Shoffer of Cushing conducted the funeral services from the Catholic Church at 9 a.m. Monday morning and the remains were tenderly laid to rest by the side of those his wife in the Stroud Cemetery.
Deceased was an oil lease broker and real estate man here and was dearly loved and highly esteemed by all who knew him. The Catholic Church was not sufficiently large enough to admit all both Catholic and Protestants who came to pay their last respects to their friend.
The deepest sympathy is extended to the sorrowing ones.
[Note, John M. Murray was living in Winneshiek County, Iowa in 1870 and 1880, father, Thomas Murray and mother, Mary Healy]
