Thomas McCarty.
Born at Pecatonica, Ill., May 20, 1855. When a baby he moved with his parents to Iowa, and afterwards to Harmony township, where he grew to manhood. In 1886 he was married to Mary O’Riley of Cresco, and to this union were born six children, five girls and one boy, William, who died in infancy. In December 1900 his wife died, nine years later his daughter, Helen, passed away and in January 1911 his daughter Margurete at her home in Cresco.
When a boy he learned the blacksmith trade at Preston and followed it at Cresco until six years ago when, while working in a foundry, he was hit in the eye by a piece of steel, from which he never recovered. Eighteen months ago he came to Harmony thinking that with better care and a change of doctors he might recover. All the care and comfort that could be provided, but of no avail, and on Monday May 27 at 8:30 p. m., he passed away. The funeral was from the Catholic church and he was laid to rest in the old home cemetery at St. Kerrens.{sp} —Harmony (Minn.) News.
