Death of Mrs. Peter Aye.
Intelligence came from Winona by wire Monday of the death of Mrs. Peter Aye. This resulted from an operation for hernia, a difficulty from which she had suffered for years. Recourse to the knife was felt to be the last resort, and that was not successful. Mrs. Aye was a daughter of Diedrich Addicken and wife and was born at Blue Hand. Oldenberg, Germany, in 1850. She came to America in 1855 with her parents, to Decorah in 1857, and was married to Peter Aye in 1870. Four children were born to them, of whom three survive. They are Mrs. Tormey, John and Henry Aye. Mr. Aye died in April, 1882. Mrs. Aye continued to reside in Decorah until the fall of 1899 since which time she has lived with her children. The remains were brought to Decorah yesterday morning and funeral services were held at Unity church with interment beside those of her relatives. Of her parental family but one member remains, Mrs. Jos. Klein of Preston, but she was prevented from being present at the funeral by illness.
The children of Mrs. Aye desire to thank their Decorah friends for the numerous acts of kindness, assistance and words of sympathy, extended to them in the death and burial of their mother.Transcriber’s Note: Her gravestone photo in Phelps Cemetery shows her name as Margaretha.
