BROGHAMMER.
Simon Broghammer, one of the pioneers of Pleasant township, died at his home in this city last Saturday morning after an illness of about two weeks from heart disease. Mr. Broghammer was born in Wurtemberg, Germanv, Feb. 18, 1823, and came to America in 1848, stopping at Racine, Wis. on Oct. 18. Here he resided for nine years and on Feb. 20, 1849, Miss Elizabeth Stortz became his wife. On June 15, 1857, they came to this county and located on the farm in the northwestern part of Pleasant township that continued to be their home until March, 1899, when they came to Decorah and have here since made their home. Eleven children were born to them, two of whom died in infancy. The surviving ones are Joseph of Charon, Neb., Frank of Osnabrock, N. D., Mrs. Mary Stoskopf of Park River, N. D., Charles, Henry, Michael and John, Mrs. Johanna Stortz and Mrs. Elizabeth Oehler, who reside in and near Decorah. Three years ago last spring, Mr. and Mrs. Broghammer enjoyed the rare pleasure of celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary and at that time all the children were present to congratulate and wish them joy. Yesterday they were again gathered together to pay the last tribute that loving hands can pay to a kind and ever considerate parent. Mr. Broghammer was never an ostentatious man. Rather was he quiet and reserved, but he was a man who always stood among his fellow men for honor and integrity. The funeral services were held yesterday morning at ten o’clock at the Catholic church, Rev. Hawe officiating, and the remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery.
