HEGNER.
Many of our citizens were surprised and pained to learn, shortly before noon on Saturday last, of the death of Ernest G Hegner. Although he had been sick with typhoid fever, encouraging reports had come from him until only a few days previous to his death, and it was not known to a large number that his condition had become serious. Saturday morning there was a marked change for the worse, but even so, his death was sudden at the last. Mr. Hegner was born in Decorah May 7, 1867, and was the fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hegner. With the exception of a few years, part of which he served as an enlisted man in the United States army, he has always remained here, part of the time as an assistant to his father in the furniture trade, later as his partner and lastly purchasing his father's interest in the business which he was conducting up to the time of his illness. On May 12, 1896, he was married to Miss Mida Hanson who, with a little daughter of four, survives him. Mr. Hegner was a member of three orders, the Masons, the Odd Fellows, and the Elks, was an honorary member of Frohsian singing society, and had served in the Decorah fire department, and these, with a large number of citizens, attended the funeral which was held Tuesday afternoon, showing by their presence, by beautiful floral offerings, the esteem in which he was held and their sympathy for the afflicted ones.
