Death of J. C. Strong
Intelligence was received by wire yesterday that J. C. Strong died at the home of his son Harry in Minneapolis. No particulars are given, but as recent letters from him made no mention of illness it is presumed the death was sudden. Burial will take place here {to}morrow afternoon, probably.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in Phelps Cemetery and was born Sept. 1832.

OBITUARY.
JACOB C. STRONG
J. C. Strong was born in Herkimer, N Y. in 1832, and died at the home of his son Harry, in Minneapolis, in the early morning of July 9th, 1902.
The earlier years of deceased were spent in the home of his childhood. In 1853 he came west and lived in Cleveland, O., until 1857, when he moved on west and located at Fort Atkinson in this county. There he was engaged in merchandising until 1862 when he returned to New York and was in trade at Yorkshire, Cattaraugus county, for three years. Upon his return to Iowa he located in Decorah, which was the family home for the following thirty years. For some years thereafter he served most efficiently as secretary of the Mississippi Valley Insurance Company, a local association for the insurance, particularly, of farm and isolated property. For this position he was especially fitted by reason of his clerical ability and methodical business habits. After the death of his brother-in-law, H. S. Weiser, and until reorganization of the Winnesheik{sp} County Bank he served that institution as its president. In the meantime rheumatism and general ill health had attacked him and thence forward most of his time was spent in efforts to secure relief from these infirmities.
During his residence in Cleveland Mr. Strong married Abbie C. Amy, one of four sisters, of whom Mrs. Jane Amy McKinney is the only survivor. To them three children were born, Harry A., residing in Minneapolis, J. Carver, living in Chicago, and R. L., who died in 1882. In 1896 the parents went to Minneapolis to live with the eldest son. There the mother died in 1899 and her remains were brought, here for burial.
Death came to Mr. Strong “like a thief in the night.” To all appearances he was as well as usual the evening previous, and retired to his room after doing the customary acts of a person of regular and methodical habits. In the morning he failed to get up or respond as usual to the breakfast call. An examination by his son disclosed that he was dead in his bed, with no evidence of severe struggle or pain.
Funeral services were held at the residence of J. P. McKinney Saturday morning last, a number of old-time acquaintances and friends participating and Dr. Willett officiating.
