Died, at the home of her son Henry at Winnipeg, Manitoba, Sunday, May 18, 1902, Mrs. William Telford, aged sixty-seven years, one month and twenty-four days.
Mrs. Telford’s maiden name was Jane E. White and she was born in Ireland March 24,1835. While in her girlhood she came with her family to Canada and settled near Hamilton, Ontario. In 1852 she was married to Wm. Telford and in 1859 they came to Decorah. Here and in the immediate vicinity the family home has ever since remained. Mr. Telford died on March 11, 1881. Soon after coming to Decorah Mrs. Telford united with the Congregational Church and has ever since maintained her relationship therewith, being one of its faithful and consistent members. Of a family of six children five survive to keep in loving remembrance a kind and faithful mother. They are Miss Mary Telford, John, Wellington, Albert and Henry. Albert and Henry are living at Winnipeg. The remains were brought to Decorah Tuesday for burial and the funeral will be held this afternoon at the home of John Telford. The cause of Mrs. Telford’s death was a complication of diseases from which she has suffered for several years.
Those from a distance who have come to attend the funeral are William White of Essex, Ontario, Mrs. Telford’s only brother, Mrs. David Telford and Mrs. Kendall of Mason City, Mrs. Neil Grant, son and daughter, of Henrytown, Fillmore county.Transcriber’s Note: Iowa Gravestone Photos show her name as Eliza Jane and that she is buried in Phelps Cemetery.
