Merlin W. Angrier died at his home in Castalia Sunday evening. April 13. Two weeks ago he was attacked with hiccoughs which continued for more than a week, when pneumonia developed and that was the immediate cause of his death. Some years ago he was thrown from a buggy and severely injured about the head: he never recover¬d from the effects of this accident.
M. W. Angier was born in Essex Co., N. Y., Aug. 14, 1831, married to Jane J. Gibbs April 17, 1854. In 1866 moved to Iowa, with the exception of a year’s residence in Clayton county and about two year’s residence in Decorah he has made his residence here and in the vicinity of Castalia, most of the time until recent years on his farm two miles east of town. As a result of the union with his first wife two children were born— Alma and Abbie. Mrs. Jane Angrier died in 1882, and in 1891 Alma followed her mother to that land from which no traveler returns. Mr. Angier was united in marriage a second time to Mrs. Sarah M Wedgewood in 1898, and she, with Mrs. Abbie Campbell survives him. At the age of sixteen Mr. Angier united with the Baptist church and since that time has remained an active member of that denomination. The funeral was conducted from the U. B. church here, Tuesday, April l5th, Rev. Allen of Decorah officiating. Only two weeks ago we noted the death of an old resident, and now another is added to the list. Although Mr. Angier was not one of the first settlers, he had made his home among us for about thirty-six years. The friends of the deceased have the sympathy of a large circle of friends and neighbors in their sad bereavement. The following friends from a distance were present at the funeral —Mr. and Mrs. Blackburn, Mrs. J. J. Marsh, Mrs. Ronev and three sons of Decorah: Mrs. Hancock of Waukon, W. M. Gibbs of Bluffton: Mrs. Miller of Cresco, and Mrs. M. G. Lambert of Luana.

Transcriber’s Note: Iowa Gravestone Photos show he is buried in Pleasant View Cemetery.
